GYOTAKU JAPANESE RESTAURANT

GYOTAKU
JAPANESE RESTAURANT
HONOLULU, HAWAII

When asked where should we go for lunch, my daughter yelled out Gyotaku.  When the boss speaks I listen so minutes later we were at Gyotaku on King Street.  We entered to find a somewhat dated seating area filled with senior citizens.  I joked with the waitress and asked if today was senior citizen day.  She looked at me and said "yes" there is a senior menu inside your regular menu.  My heart sank and I felt old.   Real old.  The menu here is filled with nice pictures of most dishes.  My eyes went directly to the Sushi Rolls shown with glistening red Ahi Tuna, Avocado, Shrimp and Unagi (Eel).  I ordered the Godzilla Roll ($13.95).  This was a huge roll that included tempura shrimp, ahi tuna, avocado and Unagi sauce.  The roll was delicious and very filling.  I asked the waitress for a small house salad and she said that I could get salad and Miso soup for $1.75 more.  Great deal.  I ordered it.  The salad was crisp and included cucumber, carrots and imitation crab.  Lightly covered with a very good dressing.  The miso soup was also good.  The Keiki Tenpura Plate included Shrimp, Potato and Carrot Tenpura, rice, corn and soy beans with a slice of Orange.  Very good lunch plate for $7.75 and it included a scoop of chocolate mint ice cream that my daughter loved.  The Lunch Special California Delight ($9.95) included California Roll Sushi, Chicken Karaage and one shrimp, eggplant and sweet potato Tenpura.  Lots of food for under $10.
