ALAIN DUCASSE
AT THE DORCHESTER
LONDON, ENGLAND
Alain Ducasse was named Best Chef in the World in 2003. In 2006 he was named the Worlds first Six Star Chef. Since then he has gone on to open 26 restaurants including sites in London, Paris, Monaco and New York. I have always wanted to dine at an Alain Ducasse restaurant so we attempted to make reservations a month in advance both online and with the concierge at our hotel. Both were unsuccessful up until we arrived in London. Upon arrival to our hotel, the concierge informed us that there was a cancelation at Alain Ducasse restaurant the same evening as we had arrived after flying 24 hours. We were all tired and did not want to dress up and go out for dinner. I thought about it and decided to go for it. This was a once in a lifetime opportunity I thought. My girls put on beautiful dresses and I put on a suit and tie. We hopped in a cab for the short ride to the Dorchester Hotel located along Hyde Park. The Dorchester is beautiful. Opened in 1931, the Dorchester is consistently ranked one of the best hotels in the World. Glad I put on the suit because everyone in this place was dressed up. Glad we did not stay here as I brought my best Quicksilver shirts and not too many dress shirts. We were greeted in the lobby and asked where Alain Ducasse was located. The British Gent escorted us to a door located in the middle of the Dorchester Lobby. Two girls emerged and requested our name. We were taken through the large doors into another world away from the Dorchester lobby. Quiet, modern and beautiful interior with subdued colors. We were seated and enjoyed one of the best dinners of my life. Service was impeccable. The food came one course after another with not long waits in between. Flawless. Delicious. Expensive.........This is definitely a once in a lifetime experience as I could never think of paying this much for a dinner again. I enjoyed the experience and food immensely and hopefully will never forget it. The bill however I will never forget in a lifetime.
