Imagine a round where each hole is a masterpiece unto itself.  Secluded from neighboring fairways and greens, it unfurls before you, a private study in dramatic elevations, rolling hills, varied bunkers and shimmering water.  (Taken From Grand Del Mar Brochure)

The Grand Del Mar Golf Club is pretty much Heaven on Earth.  The pristine Tom Fazio designed and award winning course in nestled into Los Penasquitos Canyon Preserve like a jewel in a jewel box.  The course is drop dead gorgeous like some of the blonds that sip drinks in the lobby of the hotel.  This is a private course that is limited to 150 National Members and guests of the hotel.  From the time you enter the Pro Shop to check in to the final moments when you have to figure out how much to tip your caddie, this is a great golf experience that I will never forget.  The day started with a few hits on the Driving Range.  Not your average Driving Range here.  First off the balls are all stacked perfectly in a pyramid shape next to your mat.  As you hit, an attendant brings you cold towels and water to cool you down from the San Diego sun.  I was hacking up there like a chainsaw gone wild, creating divots and holes big enough for gofers.  The attendant quickly arrived with wet towel in hand and cleaned the soil from each one of my clubs.  Our Caddie arrived shortly before our tee time to introduce himself and help assemble our group for battle.  He was dressed in bright white overalls so you could see him from anywhere on the course.  At the Grand Del Mar, your round of golf includes an experienced Caddy who walks the course and provides insight and advice about each hole. This was a first for me having a Caddy there to watch my terrible swings and fits of rage.  Think the Caddy would stop our group from cursing and swearing after each missed hit.  Nope....the f-bombs were flying like pilots out of near by Miramar Naval Air Station.  Good thing they have a well stocked Beer Cart roving the course.  The Beer Cart was exceptionally well stocked with a bartender that could serve up Bloody Mary's or even Tequila drinks.  Think she would have brought out a bottle of champagne if we had ordered it.  We played the course with great excitement and anticipation of each hole.  Each hole brought a different perspective of the lush countryside, rolling hills and beautifully landscaped canvas that often looked like a painting.  I loved it.  Simply loved every agonizing minute on this course.  Shot the worst game of my life and had a ball doing it.  The $250 per person green fee seemed to disappear from my mind and somehow did not matter.  We were golfing The Grand Del Mar and having one hell of a good time.  As the round ended, we needed to figure out how much to tip the Caddy.  One said ten bucks each, another twenty.  We had no clue.  I asked the Club House Attendant the next day how much is normal to tip the Caddy.  He said $20 to $25 per person.  We actually dropped much more than that in our Caddy's bright white overalls.
