I like to take visitors to Puka Dog on Kauai just so they can say they have been there and try these hot dogs that were featured on the Travel Channel.  At $6.75 for the Dog and $2.75 for Lemonade, this is an expensive Hot Dog Joint.  To be honest, I would rather pay the $2.50 price for a Costco Dog and Soda.  The Costco Dog has more flavor.  The Puka Dog is mostly bun.  When you get down to the end the last inch of the Puka Bun is empty and you are just eating the bread.  As for the toppings, I do not get the hot sauces.  You can order three levels of heat.  I ordered the hottest and could not taste anything or feel any heat.  This is supposed to be a special garlic and lemon sauce, but on three visits I just could not taste the stuff.  Puka Dog is also known for their special Hawaiian sauces.  In addition to the garlic and lemon there are Mango, Pineapple and Coconut sauce variations that can be inserted into the bun.  I always stick with mustard and relish.  This is not a bad Dog.  I like sharing the Puka Dog experience with friends and family.  The Dogs are good but really not great.  The owners of Puka Dog recently split and one opened a version of the place on the Island of Oahu.  You can get a Puka Dog on Oahu at 2301 Kuhio Avenue.  Directly below by buddy's bar called Mad Dog's Saloon.
