LETTER TO SANTA - HANNOVER, GERMANY

LETTER TO SANTA
HANNOVER, GERMANY

Learning about pre and post war Germany and life under Hitler has been one of the most memorable events on this trip.  Spent two days with Helga and Siegfried who are both in their 80's.  Both were raised in Germany and lived through terrible times during Hitlers reign of terror.  Siegfried served in the German Navy at age 16.  He was captured by British and sent to prison.  Helga's entire family was was moved from town to town.  Her single mother kept three daughters alive through some pretty tough times.  Helga shared this letter to Santa.  It simply asks for some dolls, doll clothes and other items a little girl would want.  The interesting thing here is that even a small child signed the letter Hail Hitler.  Hitler's control over Germans was intense.
