RESTAURANT BRELA BIERGARTEN - HANNOVER, GERMANY

RESTAURANT BRELA
HANNOVER, GERMANY

Enjoyed an amazing afternoon and dinner with a lovely group of Germans in their 70 and 80's.  As the evening progressed and the beer flowed we were told amazing stories about the lives of normal people growing up in Germany before and after the war.  Stories at the table turned to tears as memories of war and the history of Germany overwhelmed our hosts.  Learned about a 16 year old boy who joined the German Navy while Hitler was attempting to take over the world.  The 16 year old was later captured by the British and sent to Prison.  His quest to find his family and survive the war hit to the core of my heart.  This was a very special dinner not because of the food, but because of the people we were dining with.  Hope to share more on this later.  For the food, I had the salad bar and some Wiener Schnitzel.  The Schnitzel was fried pork and was a bit bland.  Kind of like Chicken Katsu in Hawaii.
