The biggest dining disappointment in New York was Guy's American Kitchen and Bar just off Times Square. We were walking around and literally walked into Guy's restaurant when we saw all the signs fronting the restaurant. While I am a huge fan of Guy's show Diners, Drive Inn's and Dives on the Food Channel, I am not a fan of his restaurant in New York. Food was not up to what I would think is Guy Fiere standards. I would be surprised if this restaurant can support the high rent and build out costs and survive in New York City. We started with the Buffalo Bleu-Sabi Chicken Wings ($13.50). The Wings had some spice and the flavor was good. Just not the knock your socks off Hot Wings I was hoping for. I ordered the Bacon Mac n' Cheese Burger ($18.50). Yes…that is $18.50 for a burger that won the New York City Wine and Food Festival Burger Bash. This First Place burger lacked flavor except for the bun which was cooked to perfection and coated with Garlic Butter. The flavor of the Bacon and Mac n' Cheese really did not come through for me. There was very little Mac n' Cheese on the burger. After about three bites I threw in the towel on this burger and thought about how good a $2.30 In n' Out Burger would be right now. My friend ordered the Tortilla Soup and said it was bland. I took a taste and agreed. While we both love Guy, the food at Guy's American Kitchen did not win any awards from us. New York has so many great restaurants and I really wish we would have picked another for lunch on this day.
