IMAGES OF CENTRAL PARK

IMAGES OF CENTRAL PARK
NEW YORK, NY

Never would have thought that walking through Central Park on a very cold January morning would bring me such joy.  I love walking around Manhattan in the early morning hours when most are still sleeping.  This is the time you see, hear and absorb the real beauty of this magnificent city.  I walked down Park Avenue from the Waldorf Astoria and ended up in Central Park after a turn or two.  The park was quiet and there were dozens of joggers suited up from head to toe in warm clothes cruising the many paths that meander through the park.  I took it all in.  The chill, the birds, the leaves, the bridges, the sculptures.  Seemed like every turn had something new to see.  The important thing here is "You Gotta Look Up".  Put the iPhone away and "look up".  See the city.  Feel the air and take it all in slowly.  Savor the little things like the plaques placed on the park benches.  Every bench has several plaques placed there by people who want someone to be remembered.  I read one and then another.  And another.  I was taken by some of the memories that brought tears to my eyes.  One honored a man that used to sit on a bench and watch the world go by with his English Bulldog.  Each plaque represents a life.  Each plaque has meaning.  As I walked I noticed many intricate sculptures and even gates that were really works of art.  Looking up I saw a small boy bundled up in winter clothes grab a piece of cardboard, sit on it and glide down a hill.  Central Park is life in motion.  Central Park is a feast for the eyes and senses.  As it got later more people entered the park and you could hear just about every language in the world being spoken while people posed for photographs and enjoyed the bitter cold day.  I kept a slow pace and continued my journey until I reached the Metropolitan Museum of Art.  I kept "looking up" and my day was incredible.
