The North Shore of Oahu is spectacular and worlds away from the hustle and bustle of Waikiki.  The drive along the coast is one of my favorites.  Really reminds me that we do live in paradise.

The most popular attraction on Oahu is the Polynesian Cultural Center and they have added a new feature that surely should increase traffic and attendance.  The Hukilau Marketplace is free and there is plenty of parking right in front of the entrance.  You can visit here for lunch, dinner and shopping and then hit the Cultural Center or the beach.  We opted for the beach after lunch at the Marketplace.  I liked the Hukilau Marketplace and hope more people visit here.  There are  plenty of dining options from a Hot Dog Cart to sit down dining at a restaurant called Pounders.  We enjoyed an outdoor BBQ Plate Lunch for $8 and some Watermelon for $4.  One thing you will notice at the Hukilau Marketplace is the Aloha Spirit.  The place is staffed with dozens of student volunteers from BYU Hawaii.  The University is located next to the Marketplace and the students are here in abundance to greet you and give you directions.  You will hear "Aloha" more times here than anywhere else on the Island.  The students are always smiling and asking you where you are from.  They really do a great job making you feel welcome and they go out of their way to make sure you are having a great experience.  Really refreshing to see this kind of hospitality all through the Marketplace.  If you are a football fan, the Polynesian Football Hall of Fame is located next to the Marketplace.  This is a very small but quality museum dedicated to football players of Polynesian ancestry.  Names like Marcus Mariota, Junior Seau and Russ Francis are enshrined here and it is a must visit for kids and adults who follow Hawaii football.
