UNIVERSITY OF ARIZONA VS HAWAII FOOTBALL GAME

UNIVERSITY OF ARIZONA
TUCSON, ARIZONA

My first trip to Tucson, Arizona was pretty cool.  Great golf and an afternoon/evening hanging out on University Blvd with an Arizona Alumni and her family.  Nice to get an insiders view of the nightlife and visit the places where a student roamed for four years.  All I was told by her Father is that "Allison has a plan".  Thank goodness for me she had an awesome plan.  We started our day visiting her old sorority house which was something Phi.  The place was amazing like a five star hotel.  Great living areas, huge kitchen with full time cooks and rooms with bunk beds that looked very comfortable.  Our first stop for a cold beverage was Illegal Petes where we found a huge crowd of Arizona students whistling down cold beers and margaritas.  When you are my age, you are pretty invisible to the college crowd but everyone including the bouncers and bartenders were friendly.  Lucky my friend had his two twenty something year old daughters with us.  Without them we would have looked like two guys lost from the senior center.  We hit Frog and Firkin which is next door and enjoyed some really good pizza and a few more cold beverages.  I ordered the Taco Pizza and it was really good.  The crust is a bit thick and very filling so I could only get less than two slices down.  Wish I could have eaten more.  The Nachos were pretty basic.  I asked for JalapeƱos three times and finally got them after I was pretty much done eating.  Waitress was great given the crowd.  She really tried her best to serve us well.  Smiling and friendly while working a crowd.  Next stop was Gentle Ben's where we found a pretty mellow crowd.  We sat upstairs where people were playing bag toss games and enjoying beverages while watching the game.  Oh yeah about the game.  We got to Arizona Stadium after bar hopping but were told the ladies could not enter because their handbags were too big.  Me and my buddy entered the stadium and took a look around and watched a few plays.  Then we went back to the entrance and met his family and we all crammed into a pedi cab.  Thats five people in a two seat pedi cab.  How we did it was pure alcohol i think.  Bodies on top of each other while a single guy named Steak Sauce peddled us back to University Blvd.  Lucky my buddies daughters are small.  Cruising in the pedi cab was cool because we went down the center of the Arizona campus.  Really beautiful place and so clean. Ended up at yet another one of my buddies daughters old haunts called the Auld Dubliner.  I did not know it but we were here for one reason and it was a flaming shot of something.  Couldn't figure out what was going on when they ordered them.  The waitress was explaining something and then we all had to move from our table and go to the bar. Turns out it is too dangerous to serve the drink at tables so it is done at the bar only.  If ever there was a WTF moment this was it.  The bartender lined up five shot glasses and filled them with stuff and then topped them with a lemon slice.  Pours of this and that were emptied into the glasses and onto a large plate.  After a warning to get back, the bartender lit the plate on fire and then sprinkled pixy dust to make the flames explode.  What a presentation.  After that I pounded the shot which was quite sweet and easy to drink.  Don't know if it gave me a buzz because I was already there.  Great experience though.  Don't know if I have order right but we went to another place where we sat at an outside deck and watched the football game on tv.  The bartenders were friendly and the prices were dirt cheap.  Think we got five drinks for like $15 here.  I was comfortable at our table and could have stayed for a few more hours.  We then went to another one of Allison's favorite hang outs and bellied up to the bar for another shot of something I don't remember.  Just remember it was great environment packed with students and a few old guys who did not belong there.  Met some incredible Air Force guys that work on helicopters.  They showed me pictures of some of the aircraft they work on and weapons systems that were awesome.  Bought them a drink and sat with them for quite awhile.  Our country so blessed to have young men and woman serving!
