Shopping for the holidays led us to Ruscello at Nordstrom in Ala Moana Center. This bright, open restaurant with a high ceiling and outdoor lanai features a menu of Italian and Mediterranean dishes.
We enjoyed the dining space and service by our Server named Tammy. The food while good just doesn't have the bold flavors that would get me to come back anytime soon. Started with the Crimini Mushroom Flatbread ($11.75). Not a bad appetizer. The flavors of the three cheeses comes through well and the mushrooms were good. I went for the Blackened Salmon Caesar ($15.95) and was surprised that the Salmon was covered in a Chipotle Sauce. This totally changed the Blackened flavor of the fish. I ended up scraping all of the sauce off the fish. Salmon was just ok. The salad had way too much dressing for my taste and the lettuce got a bit mushy which I hate. Did not really enjoy this dish. The Penne Bolognese ($13.25) had a light cream sauce and small bits of Spicy Italian Sausage. Did not find it to be spicy at all. The sauce was a bit bland and the pasta was not al dente. The Spicy Shrimp Angel Hair Pasta ($16.50) was also overcooked. The light tomato sauce was pretty simple and basic. No big flavors here.
