KOHANAIKI GOLF CLUB

Simply stated....one of the most incredible golf experiences of my life.  Kohanaiki is something really special in the world of golf.  Something really special in the world of fun if done right too.  This was my second visit to Kohanaiki which is a very exclusive community for the ultra rich.  Getting on this course is not easy and so valuable that I cannot divulge my secrets as I want to savor more days on this Rees Jones designed course in paradise.  With a $25,000 per year maintenance fee and $150,000 membership fee and the cost of a home being $3 million to $30 million at Kohanaiki, I don't think I will be a member here soon but will take it all in and enjoy whenever possible when the stars align and my contacts come through.  The people at Kohanaiki are amazing.  Always smiling and always doing more than is expected.  Service is key here and what I like is that everyone working here does it without acting.  Seems natural and that is so refreshing.  The employees make you feel at ease from the time you enter this exclusive enclave.  From the time we pulled up and had our clubs removed from our car the mood and attitude set by the employees was perfect.  You just knew this was going to be a very special and happy day.  We began the day hitting the locker room which is stunning.  You enter to a seating area which extends to a bar complete with snacks and treats.  One thing that will not happen at Koahanaiki is getting hungry.  There are snacks and food everywhere.  The locker room is filled with every amenity you can imagine.  I enjoyed the 70 SPF sunscreen and lip balm which was definitely needed on the course.  The bartender in the locker room offered us a drink but we opted to visit the Bloody Mary Bar adjacent to the clubhouse.  Next to the bar there were Breakfast Burritos, Pastries, Fruit and Coffee to start our round.  The Breakfast Burritos were delicious.  I ate one and went back for seconds.  With Bloody Mary and Burrito in hand we were escorted to the practice range where we found happy attendants waiting to serve us.  One gentlemen grabbed our clubs and took them to the range while another attendant offered us water, soda, juice and energy drinks from large coolers under a cabana.  As I walked to my clubs to hit some balls there was a canoe elevated behind the driving range.  Inside the canoe were tees, ball markers, lip balm, sunscreen and even three or four types of pain relievers.  I popped two Advil to ease the pain in my upcoming powerful swings.  Back in the cart with bags loaded I took a sip of my Bloody Mary looked around and said to myself "life is good".  This was the beginning of an incredible day.  The attendants escorted us to the first hole and then left us alone.  Two buddies celebrating a birthday at Kohanaiki.  The experience elevates at Kohanaiki when you hit your first Comfort Station.  These things are amazing and are fully stocked with booze, beer, wine, food, snacks and even Margarita and Mai Tai machines.  If this isn't golf heaven I don't know what is.  I know there are you serious golfers out there that think this is for children and not the serious golfer.  Thats fine but this little kid loves the Comfort Stations!  Grabbing a ice cold beer, eating frozen grapes, crab and cucumber salad and cookie ice cream sandwich suits my golf game just fine.  With our first Comfort Station completed with smiles are attitudes got even better and the gold experience escalated.  Another full holes and another Comfort Station.  More frozen grapes, adult beverages and maybe a few M&M's and an Almond Joy.
While the Comfort Stations are making an impact on the experience at Kohanaiki, the course is making another impact.  It is spectacular.  Beautiful fairways, greens and views.  This has to be one of my favorite if not favorite courses in all of Hawaii.  Only Nanea, Kukio and Hoakalei come to mind in this league.  With the course being so beautiful and the amenities flowing our golf day just got better and better.  Nothing like this in the world we thought.  Nothing better in golf.  Then we finished the 17th Hole and were headed to 18 with huge smiles, high fives, cheers and memories to last a lifetime.  Then we found Hole 17.5 and our experience was elevated to new heights.  I am not going into the details about Hole 17.5 because it is now a coveted secret that only me and my buddy know about.  Let me just tell you that we spent about four hours on this hole and finished Hole 18 laughing, smiling and knowing this was a round of golf for the ages.  Kohanaiki - simply stated one of the best golf experiences on the planet!
