Finally made it to the Swan Oyster Depot in San Francisco. I have been wanting to eat here since seeing Anthony Bourdain rave about it on his television show. We went early around 9:30am which is one hour before the 10:30am opening. There was already a line so we jumped in and waited. About 10:20 the doors opened and they began to let everyone in early. The reason I learned is because these guys love their work and customers. They were eager to serve and start their day which impressed me. The seats began to fill from the back to the front and we made it to the counter but it was full. "We have room down here" the staff yelled and they waved us to the back where we grabbed three seats. Everyone welcomed us and the service was something we did not expect. Exceptional, personalized, happy, accommodating and caring. We were never rushed and always engaged by our servers. This truly amazed me given the small space and popularity of the this restaurant. Seemed like everyone working here was family and they made us feel like we were part of it. I ordered a glass of White Wine and we ordered. Clams and Oysters were first but somehow I deleted the photos of these. Everything is shucked to order so it took a few minutes. Worth it though as it was super fresh. Loved the Combination Seafood Salad Crab, Shrimp and Oysters. The Crab Salad was my favorite with a lot of sweet, fresh Crab on chilled greens with Thousand Island Dressing. We also had the Clam Chowder (again no photos) which was delicious. While we were eating they placed a piece of Smoked Salmon on the table and began slicing it. After a few slices I just had to order this to try. Served with Onions and Capers. Delicious. As I sat watching the staff work I could not remember another restaurant that showed such love for what they do. The food and service here is amazing. Swan Oyster Company will be on my list of must do's when visiting San Francisco. Now we have the Buena Vista, Ristorante Milano and Swan Oyster Depot as our faves!
