KATZ'S DELICATESSEN

I was knocking Russ & Daughters in New York off my Bucket List when we walked a few yards down the street and saw Katz's Delicatessen. Holy shit I said "we're having another meal right now". Got in line and finally experienced Katz's. The line outside went pretty fast after the huge lunch crowd. Once inside you are given numbers that you must hang onto because that is how you pay when you leave the restaurant. No money is exchanged at the huge counter where you order and they make your sandwiches. My Wife got in line while I searched for a table. Took a bit but when two people left I grabbed their spot near the very back of the restaurant where they have seating where you can get table service. I settled in and just watched the people eating and waiting. Quite the show unto itself. My Wife arrived with the tray filled with a Pastrami Sandwich and a Corned Beef Sandwich plus some Pickles. Each sandwich was just under $30 each but they are huge and nothing but meat. The bread is just for show and does not hold up to the meat. The cutter gave my Wife some scraps which she ate and said she was full. I dug into the Pastrami first and it was delicious. Corned Beef was good but I would go for the Pastrami every time. Just wish I would have ordered with Cheese, Sauerkraut and Dressing like the guys next to me. This was a great foodie experience.
We had been huge fans of Carnegie Deli before it closed and went there every time we visited New York. Never visited Katz's all those years. Wish we would have.
