APOLO RESTAURANT
MADEIRA, PORTUGAL
After a tour and lots of walking we ended up in the town square next to a small church. A local girl was playing the piano and singing in the square. The sound was magical and very good. We picked the Apolo for lunch because it looked clean and had a great outdoor patio with lots of locals dining. We wanted to sample the local fish and then saw a dish with fresh sardines. We ordered the fish, sardines and a beef dish. The sardines were out of this world good. So light and fresh. Filled with flavor but not fishy. We all loved them and craved them from this moment forward. The fish was just o.k. and the meat dish was pretty terrible. Give me the sardines with a nice local red wine and I am a happy camper. What a great afternoon in Madeira.
