AMBASSADOR SWISS QUALITY HOTEL - ZURICH, SWITZERLAND

AMBASSADOR SWISS QUALITY HOTEL
ZURICH, SWITZERLAND

Arrived at the Ambassador Swiss Quality Hotel via our car GPS.  The hotel is in a great location just off the waterfront and close to Old Town, shopping and restaurants.  Check in was a bit funky as there is no driveway or parking.  This is tricky because the hotel is on a pretty busy street directly across from the Opera House.  I pulled up and ran in to ask the front desk where to park.  They told me they do not have parking and that I needed to park in the Opera House lot up the road and to the left.  They said that a bellman would be in front to get our bags.  Well, I had to drive the car around the block in very heavy traffic to get back to the front where we could offload our luggage.  When we got back to the hotel and hopped the curb to get out of traffic there was no bellman.  I went inside and asked for the bellman.  "You would like the bellman now" the same front clerk asked that said one was coming five minutes ago.  Yes I said.  The bellman grabbed the bags and we had to park the car across the street in the Opera House garage.  Cost was 18 Swiss bills per day.  The front desk here is small but the clerks were always friendly and helpful with the exception of the car thing.  Other than that they were top notch in every way.  The rooms here are tiny.  I had a twin bed.  Small but comfortable.  Everything else was fine in the room despite the size.  Zurich hotels are expensive.  Really expensive.  For what we paid I thought this was not a good deal, but when you look at the location and costs for similar properties in the area it is not that bad.  The hotel restaurant seemed to be a bit understaffed as the waitress told us in the morning that she was too busy to serve us off the menu and that we would have to have the $28 buffet if we wanted to eat.  Mixed thoughts on this one but it was really good location, safe and comfortable.
