LITTLE ITALY FOOD TOUR
NEW YORK, NY
I had tried to arrange a Food Tour of New York with Famous Fat Dave who is a dedicated Foodie, Blogger and Master of all things food in New York. Dave's schedule did not match ours so we decided to make up our own Food Tour in Little Italy. The goal for the day was to have a pizza, bowl of pasta, Italian Sandwich and Cannoli all at different restaurants. The only thing we knew for certain was that we were going to start at Lombardi's for a pizza. The rest of the restaurants were found by walking the streets of Little Italy and just looking in windows and at menus. Each one of our Little Italy stops below has a link to the full blog post but here is a recap of one great Little Italy Food Tour. I can honestly say that I would highly recommend this little food tour to anyone visiting Little Italy for the first time. I think we really got lucky walking into all of these great spots. And here is something you will not believe. After these five stops, we stopped in Chinatown on the way home for yet another sampling of food. This time it was Chinese. Burp!
Stop #1 - Lombardi's Pizza. Hands down the best pizza that I have ever tasted. Super fresh ingredients and a thin crust that is cooked to perfection. Lombardi's is always on my New York must eat list.
Stop #2 - Rich to Riches. This was totally unplanned and nowhere on our list. We had walked out of Lombardi's and across the street there as a sign that read "Dozens of Delicious Flavors and 3 Shitty ones". We looked at the place and could not figure out what they were selling. We ventured inside and found that this was a Rice Pudding place. Kind of like Baskin Robbins but with Rice Pudding. The signage here alone is worth the visit but the Rice Pudding was also pretty darn good.
Stop #3 - Pellegrino's. We were in search of a bowl of fresh made pasta and we were not disappointed at Pellegrino's. Enjoyed a bowl of fresh Fettuccine with Clams. The food and service here was great.
Stop #4 - Alleva Dairy. This deli is over 100 years old and they serve up one of the best Italian Sandwiches I have ever tasted for $8.50. Loads of hand cut Italian Meats, Provolone Cheese and Roasted Peppers. Loved the history, look, feel and smell of the place and the food!
Stop #5 - Caffe Roma. Voted New York's Best Cannoli. We enjoyed a cup of coffee, hot chocolate and Cannoli and this great little spot off Mulberry Street. Great service too.
