Carmel Valley Ranch is a great place to stay if you like open space and a laid back environment away from the city. The guest rooms are like small condominiums minus the kitchen. This is not the kind of place where you go down the elevator to have a drink at the bar. Depending on where your room is, you may be a long walk from the lobby and in fact have to take your car. We were lucky to have a room just across a small bridge from the main lobby, pool and restaurant Our room was great with a large bedroom and living room with sofa bed. The resort includes acres of vineyards, a great golf course, tennis, hiking and horseback riding trails. Pretty nice place to hang out for a few days. We were here two nights and it really was not long enough to enjoy all of the outdoor activities. Did hit the links and the course was great. Not too hard and beautiful.
