The concierge at my hotel in Manila called a half dozen private golf courses and just could not get a single foreigner on to play.  We tried calling my home club and still could not get any reservations at the better golf clubs in Manila.  Settled for a little public course just minutes from my hotel.  Club Intramuros surrounds Fort Santiago in the heart of historic Old Manila.  You actually play within the walls that once protected the city.  Founded in 1907, this short par 66 makes for a quick round if you have limited time in Mania for golf.  Upon my arrival I was greeted with smiles and welcomes.  Took me awhile to find the clubhouse because there really isn't one.  You check in at a small desk with an attendant sitting amongst a few golf balls, gloves and tees.  No golf shirt or visor sales here.   Just the basics.  There are no golf carts here so the round with caddy cost be around 2500 pesos or US$53.25.  You can also get an Umbrella person to hold an umbrella over you during the entire round for another 300 pesos or US$6.39.  While I was waiting for my rental clubs a man on the course asked me what my handicap was.  I told him the high double digit number and he said he would give me lessons and play the round with me for 200 pesos US$4.26.  I did not really want to play alone so I hired the guy who's name was Joey.  Glad I did.  Joey was not only fun to golf with but he really watched my swing and gave me feedback throughout the round.  We also polished off a few beers along with our caddy who had to be in her fifties and drank more than both of us combined.  She was good at walking outside the course to buy our beers along with bags of ice.  Said it was half the price than buying at the course.  For that, I bought her a hot dog and some snacks on the course.  Enjoyed this very short course where water is on almost every hole.  We played on a holiday weekend and Manila was nearly deserted from the usual hectic traffic and noise.  The sky was blue and it was like no other day I have ever spent in Manila.  Golfing in the heart of Manila and it was awesome.  After the round Joey and the Caddy joined me for a great lunch.  Probably had one of the best grilled shrimp dishes of my life.

Description

Another historical golf course that can be found within the city of Manila is Club Intramuros Golf Course. During the colonization period, the takeover of the Spaniards in the country led to the creation of the “Walled City” called Intramuros. Construction of the walls were built to prevent foreign invaders from crashing in. Years after during the American colonization, the walls were rebuilt and drastic changes were made to the city. Including building a golf course. From that day on until now, the golf course is considered to be one of the city’s old courses. Playing at Club Intramuros Golf Course is perfect anytime of the day because of its small course that features 18 holes. It was estimated that any golf players can finish the course in not less than two hours. Plus, it is known to be the only city’s course that offers Night Golf to its players.  Golfers may think that the smaller the course, the easier it gets to play. However, it is not always the case. The short course of Club Intramuros Golf Course offers many challenges such as water hazards, sand traps and out of bounds layouts. Playing each hole gives you a unique experience.
How To Play
Club Intramuros is open to the public. However, public courses tend to have longer wait times, which can be very time consuming. They also don’t usually allow tee-time reservations.
