Tahiti and the Islands of Polynesia are amazing.  Far nicer than I expected and a reminder of what the Hawaiian Islands must have been like forty or fifty years ago.  This is a place to slow down, unwind and just take life in one day at a time.  This is a paradise that is unspoiled and filled with natural beauty and a French speaking population of Natives and French Nationals.  Everyone speaks French here and the food and culture while Polynesian has a distinctive French flare.  The Intercontinental Tahiti was my first choice because they offer the Bungalow Rooms over the ocean.  Everytime I look in a magazine or search the internet I see these bungalows and tell myself one day I'll stay there.  Well that day did come and I enjoyed every minute of it.  The days in our Bungalow at the Intercontinental Tahiti were simply amazing.  So nice that we did not want to leave to board our 7 day cruise of the Islands.  The Bungalows are a private oasis where you can relax, eat, swim, sleep and play in your personal enclave of Polynesian luxury.  The resort has incredible pools where you can just float, soak and enjoy a cocktail.  The swim up pool bar adjacent to the Le Lotus restaurant is the best place to be for me.  Swim and relax with cocktail in hand.  Don't want to hold your cocktail and they will give you a floatie to hold it.  Sunsets here are amazing with very few people in or around the pool.  A perfect day would be to relax here and then enjoy dinner at Le Lotus.  Oh my goodness...the most beautiful restaurant in the world.  Perched atop the water Le Lotus is heaven at sunset.  No better view and atmosphere while enjoying fine cuisine in shorts and a t-shirt.  The Front Desk and Concierge here were very polite and accommodating.  The Concierge was the ultimate professional and he guided us to some of the best dining experiences on the Island.  The hotel offers shuttle service to the main city of Papeete which is about 15 minutes away.  The charge is 500 Polynesian dollars our about $5 each way.  If you do not use the shuttle the cost is between $20 and $30 each way for a cab.  Price goes up in the evening hours.  Figure $40 to $60 round trip into Papeete and every meal is at least $20 or more.  Tahiti is not cheap with a glass of wine running $12 to $18.  A glass of champagne figure $30.  Hamburger at hotel $20.   Don't visit French Polynesia thinking things are cheap.  They are not.  But the experience is worth every penny.  Remember that the language and everything written here is in French.  This is something that I did not expect yet after two weeks embraced it and wanted to learn more about the people, history and culture.  I fell in love with the people of Tahiti.  There huge smiles, tank tops and shorts.  And the flowers.  Oh my goodness the flowers.   They are everywhere.  Beautiful works of art adorning the heads of the woman.   The most beautiful headwear in all the world.  Made daily by the woman of Tahiti working in small stalls along the roadside.  Weaving the colors and scents of Polynesia in a way that can only be done here.  Tahiti is an incredible paradise that leads to an even more incredible paradise of the Islands that surround this beautiful Island.  Tahiti was the beginning of our adventure and the rest of the trip was even more special and amazing.
