Our second visit to La Vie did not have the "wow" factor as our first. While the food was excellent for some reason it just did not seem to blow us away. La Vie is unique as they offer a three and four course dinner where you can choose any item as many times as you like within your three to four courses. So if you want to orders of Foie Gras or four orders of Lobster you can get it. You basically mix or match to your taste. I went for the Lobster Ravigote, Foie Gras Poele, White Truffle Gnocchi ($69) supplement and Maui Venison. Yes that is $69 on top of the $112 Four Course meal which was TOTALLY not worth it. The Lobster Ravigote was delicious with perfectly cooked Lobster hidden under the radish. The White Truffle Gnocchi was a huge disappointment. The White Truffles were absolutely tasteless. When you pay an additional $69 for a dish you expect to be blown away. I was not blown away and in fact did not want to finish the dish. Lucky my Wife wanted to try so she finished it. I did not like the nuts in the dish or the bland flavor of the Gnocchi or sauce. I figure this dish cost around $100 by itself when you add the cost of the meal plus the supplement charge. Huge waste of money. The Foie Gras Poele was perfection with the combination of the Foie Gras, Beets and Lentils working perfectly. I could have eaten two of these dishes in place of the Truffles and been a very happy camper. The Maui Venison also hit high marks for the perfect preparation and flavor. My Wife loved the Dry Aged Yellowtail. I tasted it and it was cooked perfectly and a very delicious piece of fish. Service was amazing with our waitress being a superstar. Great personality, engaging and gracious. The Hostess also was top notch with a great greeting and first impression.
