A restaurant owner in San Francisco who is from Rome recommended we visit one of his favorite restaurants that is located near the Vatican.  Dante - Taberna De' Gracchi was a bit hard to find but we ended up enjoying a very nice lunch here after walking up and down the streets for over an hour.  We must have asked a half dozen people on Via De' Gracchi for directions to the restaurant.  Some pointed right, others pointed left and most said they have never heard of it.  We persisted and eventually walked our way right to the place.  We were met by several gentlemen in suits who greeted and seated us in the dining room.  The place is upscale but very comfortable and relaxed.  I settled in with a little vino and we started ordering.  Started with the Clams Saute (12 Euro).  The Clams were very small but flavorful.  Served with bread that was hard as a rock.  Meant to be dipped in the rich butter and olive oil sauce.  Next up we tried the Octopus Salad (12 Euro).  Large pieces of fresh Octopus served with very fresh and delicious Tomatoes and Arugula.  Nice salad.  The Fettuccine with Porcini Mushrooms (13 Euro) was delicious because the pasta and mushrooms were so fresh.  We love food in Rome because most places use really fresh ingredients with simple sauces. The Veal Saltimbocca (14 Euro) was also delicious.  Thinly sliced veal with a very light mushroom sauce.  Yummy when combined with the Fettuccine.  The piece of pie or pastry at the end was not very well liked by the family.
