FISH HONOLULU

FISH HONOLULU

HONOLULU, HI. 96813

HOURS:  Daily 11AM - 9PM

We liked the look and feel of Fish Honolulu despite it being hot without any air conditioning.  The restaurant is open which is nice but you do have to give up the a/c.  The staff on this day was smiling and friendly.  No complaints at all about service or food waiting times.  Food came out lightening fast.  We started with the Crispy Oysters ($16) which are listed as a House Specialty.  The Oysters are breaded and fried and served with a vinegar sauce and chili pepper sauce in a drop bottle.  Served on a bed of Hawaiian Salt with crunchy seaweed.  A little salt, seaweed, vinegar and chili pepper sauce all went on top of my oysters and I loved them.  We did not see the fresh oyster menu until after we ordered the Crispy Oysters.  I would have ordered fresh instead of fried if I would have seen the fresh menu.  The fried ones were good though.  My Wife ordered the Fish Tacos ($16) which were served with fresh Ono.  The fish was super fresh and delicious on its own and never should have been fried if you ask me.  The overall flavor of the tacos was very bland.  Really needs some sauce and Pico de Gallo or Salsa.  The Roasted Tomatillo Yuzo Avocado Sauce was tasteless and added no flavor to the tacos.  We asked for salsa or hot sauce and were offered Sriracha and Tabasco.  These tacos could be good with fresh fish and a good salsa.  My Daughter ordered the Blackened Ahi Melt ($14) and did not really like it.  Only ate a few bites.  I tried it and did not care for it either.  The salad was served with a Dill Dressing that was thick and decent but both me and my Daughter would have preferred a different dressing if offered.  I tried the Signature Grilled Ahi Sandwich ($17) which came with Crispy Friend Onions, Bacon, Lettuce and Tomato.  Good sandwich but with the Fried Onions and Bacon making up most of the flavors.  The Ahi was fresh and I wish that would have been the prominent flavor.  All in all the entire family was not blow away with the food at Fish Honolulu.  Want to go back for the dinner menu before we make our final decision on this restaurant.  Seems to have some potential and the fresh oysters did look good.
