SIDE STREET INN - THE ORIGINAL ONCE AGAIN

SIDE STREET INN
HONOLULU, HAWAII

Enjoyed another great meal with some out of town guests at the Side Street Inn on Hopaka Street.  Really like this original location versus the newer restaurant on Kapahulu.  Something about the old school feel of the place with tables and chairs that don't match, boxes stacked in every corridor   and no frills decor.  I like the valet parking right in front.  It cost $3 but is worth the convenience.  Something about the place makes me want a cold beer every time I walk in the door.  The waitresses are always on top of it here.  Always checking your drinks and making sure you have enough food on the table.  The Side Street Inn is a perfect place to eat Family Style.  Order a bunch of plates and share.  We started with the Spinach Salad ($13.50) with Hau'ula vine-ripened tomatoes, bacon, egg, cheddar cheese and house made balsamic dressing.  This is my favorite Spinach Salad on the Island.  Followed up the salad with the Kalua Pork Sliders.  Soft Chinese style buns stuffed with Smokey Kalua Pork and pineapple.  Served with a sweet sauce.  The Award Winning Side Style Famous Fried Rice ($12) is the bomb.  Best Fried Rice on the Island served with generous portions of Char Siu, Portuguese Sausage, Bacon, Peas, Carrots and Green Onion.  The Edamame ($8) is boiled in Hawaiian Salt brine and served with lots of garlic.  The Sizzling Rib Eye Steak was a little over $20.  Prime Beef served pupu style.  Sliced and served on a sizzling platter with delicious mushrooms and grilled onions in a house Garlic Butter.   The Pan Fried Island Pork Chops ($22) were pretty good this time.  Meaty pieces of pork seasoned and pan fried to a golden brown.  Served with good old Ketchup.  Absolutely loved the Chocolate Peanut Butter Crunch ($7.50).  Milk chocolate and peanut butter combined with crumbled wafers that the waitress said were house made.  Served with my favorite Roselani Vanilla Ice Cream from Maui.  The Molten Lava Cake ($10) was the chocolate bomb.  Only problem is that everyone was so stuffed by the end of dinner we couldn't finish the thing.  Wish I had it now a day later.
