I am a lover of the Peninsula Hotels and have stayed at many. In fact, I met my Wife when she was working at a Peninsula Hotel. The Peninsula Chicago is very nice, but somehow doesn't have the Peninsula feel like Manila, Hong Kong, Beijing or Beverly Hills. May be the fact that when you enter you need to take the elevator up to the lobby. Also the lobby dining area didn't have that Peninsula feel where you could sit and relax any time of day. On this trip, we couldn't even get a table in the lobby to enjoy a drink. Went to the hotel bar, and couldn't get a seat there either. I went to the concierge and asked where we could go to have a cocktail and she recommended the Four Seasons a short walk away. Can you believe e this? Not the Peninsula experience that I had savored in the past. On top of that, at both the lobby and bar, they just didn't seem to give a shit. We're fully booked. sorry. No options. While there were a few employees who smiled, engaged and made us feel welcome, the overall feel here was below my expectations. Loved the Christmas decorations and Candy Store near the Front Desk. During certain hours, you can enter the Candy Store and help yourself to some candy.
We were getting a good deal on the room so I cannot complain. The room was a bit small and only had one sink. We stayed in another room a week later and it was larger and had two sinks. Post on that visit later. I still love Peninsula Hotels and would probably stay here again.
