Another foodie dream realized with a visit to Russ & Daughters in New York. This was especially nice because I got to spend one on one time talking to the owner Russ. He spoke of his Grandfather, Father and Daughter who is taking over the business. A true gentlemen who understands the importance of his heritage and business. This place is crazy busy with a mix of locals and tourists. Russ would meet people at the door whose parents came here over 50 years ago. He remembers everyone and even walked outside to say hello to someone who has been coming to his shop for decades. Don't forget to grab a number when you get in the door. Our wait was over 30 minutes and we were sandwiched between patrons trying to stay out of the way. Learned quickly to stand away from the counter so people whose numbers get called can get in front and order. Once you are ready to order you select your Bagel type, Cream Cheese and add ons. We went with an Everything Bagel, Plain Cream Cheese, Salmon, Salmon Roe plus Capers, Onions and Tomato. Also got the Chopped Liver with Pickles plus Capers, Onions and Tomato. Wow..these bagel sandwiches were huge. Cannot imagine finishing one on my own. We split them and only finished two halves. Liked the Bagel with Salmon but the added Roe while delicious, kind of overpowered everything. This was a great experience and I would love to return here a dozen more times.
