LOMBARDI'S PIZZA
NEW YORK, NY
Lombardi's is the first pizza parlor in America with great history and pizza. The original coal fired brick oven from the 1800's still cooks every pie. We started with the House Salad. It was big enough for all three of us with a good bit left over. Then it was time for the Lombardi's pizza. I love this pizza. It is a thin crust that is slightly charred on the bottom. The toppings are quality and fresh. We ordered half sausage and pepperoni and half cheese and basil ($22). This large pie has around eight huge slices that quite easily fed a family of three with leftovers. This was Shirley's favorite pizza spot on earth but after trying Grimaldi's, she said she prefers the Grimaldi pie because of their crust. She said the Lombardi crust was soggy on the inside. Keli and me voted for Lombardi's so Lombardi's wins the Santos Pizza Challenge. Kind of amazing, we went to Lombardi's on Thanksgiving Day and it was packed like every other day. Singles, families, locals and tourists were all enjoying this great pizza for lunch. Wonder if they had a traditional Thanksgiving dinner that same night. We did!
