STRAITS HONOLULU RESTAURANT & LOUNGE

STRAITS RESTAURANT & LOUNGE
1060 AUAHI STREET
HONOLULU, HI

Excited to try the new Straits from Singapore.  Made a reservation the first week they opened.  Enter to find a restaurant/nightclub vibe with lots of woman in black dresses.  We were first seated at the entrance while we waited for our table.  The waitress in the bar area was incredible.  All smiles, happy and so eager to make our experience the best.  Bummer we had to move to a table.  We had one drink, paid the waitress and then were seated.  We waited and waited and not one person approached our table.  No welcome, no waiter and no water.  We just sat there and looked at the menu.  We decided what we wanted and waited some more.  My Wife asked me to grab a waiter or Manager and I said "just wait, they just opened and are probably working the kinks out.  More waiting and finally my Wife hailed a Manager down and requested that we order.  The Manager took our order.  The food came out quite quickly with the Scallop Crudo coming first.  The dish was good but not great.  Next up was the Asian Aquachili with marinated Shrimp.  Everyone liked this dish.  A bit tangy at first but then it leveled out.  The Spicy Street Noodles were good but were not spicy at all.  Absolutely no spice which was disappointing.  The Spicy Ong Choi also was not spicy.  We thought it was just ok and not as good as the Ong Choi Beef at Maile's Thai.  The star of the night should have been the Singapore Crab for $80.  The Crab had very little meat and it took a lot of work to get the small pieces.  Spice however was perfect and we loved the sauce.  Just very little crab meat.  We asked for dessert because we were all still hungry after spending over $200 on the meal.  Waitress said they did not have dessert but were working on it.  We concluded that there was nothing on the menu that we tried and would come back for.  Pretty disappointing but I am glad we got to check out the scene because it was pretty cool and probably rocks late night.
