Tommy Bahama Restaurant in Waikiki opened just a few days ago on Beachwalk. While there is no ocean view, this place makes up for it with a very relaxing and comfortable atmosphere just half a block from Waikiki beach. I loved my first visit here for lunch. Food and service were great. If you walk by the front of Tommy Bahama you may not know that there is a restaurant and bar here. The entrance looks like a Tommy Bahama clothing store. We were greeted upon arrival by no less than three smiling faces who welcomed us to Tommy Bahama. One gal showed us to the elevator and stairs that lead to the second and third floor restaurant and bar. We took the stairs which are beautiful and adorned with a giant wall of plants. There were three girls at the hostess station and they all welcomed us with huge smiles. We were seated immediately just off the second floor main dining room in a small outdoor patio section that was actually very cool and comfortable. Again we were next to a large wall of plants. Our waiter approached the table and introduced himself. Again another welcome to Tommy Bahama. He explained that Tommy Bahama makes all of their own salsas, sauces and juices fresh. Even the juices used in the bar are fresh he said. The waiter pitched the World Famous Coconut Shrimp ($14.50) so we gave it a try. Served with a very fresh, light and crisp Slaw that I really enjoyed. The Coconut Shrimp served with a Mango Chutney were really tasty but I don't think worthy of World Famous. I ordered the Blue Crab and Avocado Salad ($22). Very happy with the amount of Blue Crab on the plate and it was delicious. I did however have to dig around a bit to find the few pieces of Avocado in the salad. Overall the salad was delicious and I would not hesitate to order it again. My Daughter ordered the Kalua Pork Sandwich ($17). This was a colossal size sandwich served with French Fries. My Daughter loved the crispy fried onions on top of the pork and she said the sandwich was good. She really liked it and so did I. We had hopes of ordering the Triple Chocolate Cake for dessert but were both so full that we had to pass. Instead we took a walk around the restaurant and up to the third floor patio and bar. Wow....this is one of the coolest spots in Waikiki. Complete with and outdoor sandbox where you can relax in comfortable couches and enjoy the evening breezes and fire pits. Really loved this place and will go back again real soon. While the prices are a bit high, the portions are large and the quality of food is excellent!
