During a recent visit to Maui, I enjoyed a quick lunch at Shaka Pizza with a friend and customer. We both ordered a slice of pizza and then split a Hoagie Sandwich. I ordered a slice of Pepperoni, Onion and Jalapeño Pizza ($4). I love the thin crust and sauce at Shaka. This is the kind of pizza I wish we could buy in Honolulu. The crust is perfect and I liked the toppings. The onions on this visit were cut a bit large and not cooked. When you order a slice of Shaka Pizza, I think they just have a few cheese pizzas pre-cooked and then add your toppings and reheat. I don't mind this method because it is fast and the pizza tastes great. The large Italian Hoagie ($15.19) is a huge sandwich that includes three types of salami, ham, provolone cheese, lettuce, tomatoes and onions. We added Pepperoncini and jalapeno peppers. I did not specify dressing because I thought it came on the sandwich. Turns out our sandwich did not have any mayo, mustard or the house Italian Dressing. As I was eating my half I thought that the sandwich was missing something. The guy at the counter did not mention anything about the dressings so I guess you have to request them when you order. The sandwich was still pretty good. Especially like the fresh baked bread that is baked fresh at the restaurant. I like Shaka Pizza. Think they need to spend some time on the little details like cooking the onions and putting dressing on the sandwich.
