Lucky to have a Japanese friend that lives in New Jersey and travels to New York quite often.  He took us to Jukai which we would have never found in a million years.  This places is tucked away on a quiet street and if you don't know where to go down a set of stairs you will certainly miss it.  This was one of the most delicious and satisfying meals during this trip to the Big Apple.  Service was excellent too with an all Japanese bilingual staff who made us feel welcome with non stop smiles.  Our host ordered this Set Menu which did not disappoint and shined on so many levels.

One way to get the feeling of a great hotel that you are not staying at is to have cocktails or dine there.  This was the case in New York when we were walking past the Plaza Hotel on an early weekend morning.  We entered the lobby and walked straight through to a large open bar where we hopped up on the bar stools and quickly asked for menus.  The waitress informed us that they were not yet serving in this room and directed us to the Champagne Bar which is just off the lobby and front desk.  I walked up to the small bar and above it stood a wall of champagne.  More champagne bottles that I had ever seen.  Champagne heaven.  I'm eating here I said.  We took a seat and after a few minutes a tall man in a suit brought menus.  He was not too friendly and did nothing to welcome us or make us feel wanted here.  Pretty much just going through the motions.  Menu - do you want a drink - bring check.  I went for a glass of bubbly and let me tell you, these are scaled down glasses.  Smallest champagne glass I have ever drank from.  At the prices they charge for a single glass they should have given me a goblet.  I went for the Plaza Eggs Benedict ($24) and loved it.  Probably one of the best Eggs Benedict I have had in awhile.  The Hollandaise Sauce was perfect and the Canadian Bacon had a rich smokey taste.  This and the glass of champagne is breakfast heaven to me.

WOW.....The Book of Morman is one of the rudest, crudest and funniest shows I have ever seen in my life.  This was my second time seeing the show on Broadway and I laughed just as hard the second time as I did the first.  This play is amazingly funny if you have a sense of humor.  Nothing is sacred here.  No religion, female body parts or language.  It is "R" rated for sure but so funny.  It is a nonstop adventure of laughs with some great singing.  Absolutely loved it.  The cast was fantastic and we got to meet most of the key members after the show.  All were smiling friendly and engaging.  This was one amazing evening on Broadway and another reason why I love New York!

NANKING - NEW YORK

Saturday and Sunday 12:00 PM - 12:30 AM

Prior to seeing a Broadway play we cruised through Times Square looking for a place to have a drink and a snack.  After going into two Irish type bars with one having no seating and the other a bartender that didn't want to serve guests we found Nanking right in the middle of Broadway.  The place looked clean so we entered and sat at the bar.  Service was good as we were the only ones at the bar and the restaurant was kind of slow.  Took a look at the menu and ordered up a few appetizers to go with our drinks.  The prices I remember were really low considering the location and the food was ok.  Not a bad place to enjoy a drink prior to a Broadway show I thought.  Only a block from the theatre district.
