After a day of watching the University of Hawaii Woman's Volleyball team play their first ever Sand Volleyball match in Waikiki, we walked a block to the Hilton Prince Kuhio Hotel where a friend of ours works at MAC 24-7 just off the lobby. MAC 24-7 features Modern American Cooking with favorites such as Meat Loaf, Beef Stew, Grilled Pork Chops and Burgers. They also bring in local flavors with fresh fish and Saimin. They are very famous for their Pancake Challenge that was featured on the Man vs Food television series. The huge pancakes are served all day and believe me most of the people around us were eating pancakes for dinner here. One family of six sitting near us placed one order for the entire family. For $16 you can feed a family of six with one of these pancakes. There was not much on the menu that interested me here so I tried the Fried Chicken and Waffles ($18). One large waffle topped with four pieces of fried chicken and served with sausage gravy and maple syrup. Huge portion of food. I did not put a dent in it. The waffle was pretty bland as was the chicken. Liked the gravy with the chicken. Not my favorite meal. I recall when I had Fried Chicken and Waffles in Harlem, New York and the flavors were huge. We also tried the Adobo Chicken Thighs ($15) served with vegetables and fried rice. The chicken was very moist and flavorful. The portion served my wife and daughter with a little take home too. MAC 24-7 serves large portions of stick to your gut food. It is known for late night dining where patrons arrive after knocking a few back in Waikiki. The restaurant has a very large bar with wide screen monitors playing sporting events. The staff was relaxed and friendly. They did a good job.
