After days of fresh Sashimi, Mahi Mahi, Tuna, Steak and Foie Gras, it was a nice change our diet up a bit with some Asian food. The Concierge at our hotel recommended Restaurant Jimmy as the best Asian restaurant in Papeete. We made a lunch reservation and were glad we did as this place got packed during the lunch hours. The restaurant is clean, bright and air conditioned! Air Conditioning in Papeete is a luxury and this place was cool and comfortable. The staff and crowd here speak French. Seemed like the entire restaurant was filled with locals getting together for the Holiday Season. Tables were filled with groups of men and woman enjoying the food, conversation and a bit of wine. Our waitress spoke a little English and brought us the menu in English. We were amazed at the number of menu pages and extensive array of Asian dishes offered here. We spent a few minutes going through all of the menu pages and then came up with kind of what we would order at home. Started with the Vietnamese Spring Rolls. One thing we noticed in French Polynesia is that when you order appetizers and main courses they all come at one time. They do not bring the appetizers first rather everything you order comes at one time so our Spring Rolls came with the Salad and Main Courses. The Spring Rolls while not looking great with the fried grease wrapper were delicious. Some of the best I have tasted and filled with vegetables, shrimp and noodles. Great when wrapped in lettuce and dipped in the semi-sweet sauce with a little hot chili sauce too. I absolutely loved the Beef Salad. It looked rather bland when brought to the table but then the waitress came over and mixed it up exposing the colors of carrots, cucumber, lettuce, cilantro, mint and noodles. The marinated Beef added a ton of flavor and texture to this salad. Loved it! That Phat Thai with Chicken was good but I think we were getting filled up and did not put a dent in this dish. Had to leave room for the Crab which we ordered spicy. It was not spicy but had a good flavor once you got to the meat. We all loved Restaurant Jimmy and I would recommend this place if you need an Asian food fix in French Polynesia.
