We were excited to go to Kaimuki Shokudo after seeing some posts on Instagram. Hopefully we thought this would be a "go to" Japanese spot not far from home. Unfortunately, the restaurant menu didn't impress us and we left still hungry and disappointed. The service and staff however was fantastic. Everyone in the restaurant welcomed us and thanked us when we left. Our waitress was friendly and always checking on us and refilling drinks. There is a lot of fried food here which in moderation is ok. We thought the Tako Karagge was ok but we were not fans of the mayo dipping sauce. Everything seemed to be paired with the mayo sauce here. Wish they had other options. The Maguro Sashimi was our favorite dish along with the Avocado Onion Salad. I would return for this salad. My Wife liked the Grilled Shishamo but I thought it was very mushy. These would be better if deep fried she said. Again served with the mayo. The Shrimp Tempura was good but the Okizuke Hotaru Ika for us was uneatable. Raw Squid in some kind of black sauce that looked and smelled disgusting.
I am not going to write this place off without going back again and trying a few more dishes.
