THE SANCTUARY HOUSE
WESTMINSTER, LONDON
We were in search of London Pub food again and stumbled by a very nice looking place while walking through the streets back to our hotel. The restaurant is famous for its Homemade Pies that are filled with fresh ingredients and meats. I went with the Sanctuary Special House Pie that was filled with slowly braised chucks of steak, diced lambs kidney, horseradish in a rich red wine gravy. Sounded delicious and I waited in anticipation for it to arrive. While waiting I enjoyed a nice pint of English beer. My lovely bride ordered a Pie with Chicken and Sun Dried Tomatoes. The Pies arrived puffed up looking perfectly cooked. The pastry was light and flakey. Served up with mashed potatoes and fresh vegetables or French Fries. My Pie was horrible. All I could taste was lamb. Heavy duty lamb taste and smell. I did get a small piece of the steak and it was good. The lamb taste just overwhelmed the entire pie. My wife loved her Chicken Pie. Our daughter had a bowl of vegetable soup which was more like a can of tomato sauce. Not too good. She only ate about two spoonfuls. I tried the soup and agreed that she did not have to finish it.
