MORIMOTO WAIKIKI
HONOLULU, HAWAII
Enjoyed a delicious business lunch at Morimoto Waikiki. We arrived at 12:30 at the place was pretty empty. You can choose seating outdoors overlooking the harbor or inside in air conditioned comfort. We went for the indoor seating. While service was a bit slow, they did get the job done. Was it up to Morimoto's standards that I have enjoyed on previous visits? No. Waiter was a bit slow. Entrees did not come together and there was absolutely no interaction between the wait staff and our table. Lunch here runs from $15 to $20. Double that if you order appetizers for the table or some sushi. I loved the meal. Started with fresh Hamachi Sashimi. Wow what a presentation. Served on bed of ice with beautiful flower placed in the middle. Truly a work of art. The Hamachi was like butter. Melted in your mouth. Loved it. Had to try the Tuna Pizza when I saw it on the appetizer menu. Think it was around $18. Did not know what to expect when they simply call it Tuna Pizza. Little did I know that it is glossy red sashimi grade Ahi Tuna placed on a very light crust and coated with a Wasabi Aioli that was delicious. Small slices of onion and jalapeƱo gave this pizza a great pop. This is now my favorite pizza and I am going back to enjoy this again. The Spicy Crab was around $24. Nice portion of Alaskan King Crab topped with a spicy sauce. The sauce does not overpower the crab taste which is good. Not too hot. Just the perfect combination of sweet crab and chili. The crab was served with some really good french fries with the hot sauce drizzled over the fries. The fries here are good. Light and crispy. I ordered the Beef Sliders that were around $18. Three small mini burgers with Waygu Beef, Slice of Pork fat on a perfectly cooked bun. This burger was a bit bland. The fries served with the burger were coated with Furikake and Wasabi. Loved the Wasabi kick. There were sweet pickles and onion on the side. The sweet pickles did not go with the burger in my opinion. My friends ordered the Daily Special which was a Spicy Ahi Bowl. Both were disappointed. The Ahi was not spicy and really lacked flavor. They ordered the hot sauce served with the crab to spice it up. One guy said that Spicy Ahi from Foodland was better. All in all this was a great lunch to me.
