We have been driving by the brightly colored Shrimp Station in Kapaa and reading about their self proclaimed "Best Coconut Shrimp on the Planet" during our visits to Kauai. Decided to stop in and see for ourselves if this truly was the best Coconut Shrimp on the Planet. When I write that the Side Street Inn has the best fried rice on the planet and that an In n' Out Burger is the best $2.00 burger on the planet I mean it and believe it. I ate the Coconut Shrimp at the Shrimp Station and can tell you that it IS NOT the best Coconut Shrimp on the Planet. Not even the best in Hawaii or that good at all. I frankly would not order it again. We entered the Shrimp Station on a warm rainy day and found the place empty. All of the workers (3) had their backs to the window and we waited a while for one of them to turn around and take our order. The kids working here did not give a crap about service or their customers. Basically what do you want and here it is. We ordered at the window and waited for our name to be called. Tried the Coconut Shrimp ($12.00). Described as being dipped in a secret batter and covered with coconut flakes. Served with a Papaya and Ginger Dipping Sauce and French Fries. The sauce had very little flavor and did not compliment the shrimp in any way. The Shrimp were heavily breaded and there was only a hint of coconut flavor. We ended up removing the fried batter and eating the shrimp. The Got Garlic Shrimp ($12.00) was even worse. There is a thick and gummy sauce that is like gravy. It has very little garlic flavor and is served without any hot sauce like we are used to getting at places like Giovanni's on Oahu. This place is nowhere near as good as Giovanni's and I would not come back again.

Shrimp station never disappoints. Great food every time. My husband and I can never decide so we get several orders to taste em all. Can't wait till next time
