Finished a round of golf in Tampa, Florida and learned that the University of Southern Florida was playing a football game just down the road. I had watched Southern Florida play on television and they seemed always to be exciting. With a 5-1 record this year, thought it would be cool to visit the stadium and catch a game on Saturday night. We arrived about an hour before the game to find a pretty good tailgate scene around the stadium. The crowd seemed small for a stadium that seats 65,000 but everyone was smiling and decked out in either green or pink. The pink was to give recognition to Breast Cancer Awareness Week. We purchased tickets at the entrance and went in and immediately grabbed a beer. We were given USF stickers and I even picked up a free t-shirt in the student section. I asked the gal passing out shirts if I could have one and she said you had to be a student. I said I was a student and bam - I got the shirt and changed into it so I could appear to fit in with the local crowd. Didn't work as once again it seemed I was invisible to the young crowd. We cruised all around the stadium checking it out. The Pirate ship in the end zone is kind of a nowhere land as there is nothing in the ship and you cannot enter it. The game was good and at the end USF was 6-1. Small crowd for a team that is winning I thought. This was a good little adventure and despite outbursts of rain where most of the fans took cover under the bleachers and just watched the game on television screens.
