I have always wanted to eat at Lotus of Siam in Las Vegas. The restaurant has garnered many awards including a James Beard Award and praise from Anthony Bourdain. We went on the Resy App to make a reservation and it said the restaurant was booked solid for the date and time we entered. They offered an option to be wait listed during the one hour period I had entered. I wait listed but made a reservation at another highly acclaimed Thai restaurant near Chinatown. We arrived at the other restaurant and I got a text message saying Lotus of Siam could take us at 12:00PM. Decided to cancel the reservation where we were literally standing in front of and hop in another Uber to go to Lotus of Siam. We entered and were immediately greeted and seated. Staff was friendly and very attentive. For this lunch we were not eating meat, chicken or pork which limited us to vegetarian items. The menu is huge here and it takes some time to look over it. Plenty of non-meat dishes though. We started with the Meatless Egg Rolls which were pretty basic. I asked for some hot sauce and the waiter brought a plate with a nice selection of items to spice up the food. Next was Som Thum or Green Papaya Salad which we ordered with Crab. The dish arrived without Crab so they took it back and brought us one with Crab. The Crab was raw. Not what we expected but pretty good. The Sweet and Sour Vegetables and Seafood was neither Sweet or Sour. Sauce was pretty tasteless. There also was large pieces of imitation Crab which I thought was disgusting. The star of this lunch and an absolutely delicious dish was the Garlic Prawns. Super crunchy shell that is seasoned with Garlic and very tasty. You can eat the entire shell. This was definitely one of the best Shrimp dishes. My Wife liked it so much that she took the leftovers home to Hawaii. Our waiter recommended the Kaho Soi which we ordered with vegetables. A basic Curry dish that really did not wow us. My Wife wanted the Fried Bananas for dessert so we ordered it with Coconut Ice Cream. Pretty good. All in all we liked the service and Lotus of Siam but we were not blown away by the dishes we ordered except for the Garlic Prawns. Would definitely return to try some meat dishes though.
