Visiting New Haven and having New Haven style Pizza has been on my Bucket List for decades. Finally had a business trip to Boston so we headed down the coast after stops in Rhode Island. We timed our trip so we would arrive in New Haven right when Frank Pepe opened. We were the first in line and were quickly seated right at 11am. I felt like I was in Pizza royalty and savored the moment taking it all in. We decided to try the Clam Pizza The Special with Bacon, Pepperoni, Sausage, Peppers, Onion, Mushroom and Crushed Italian Tomatoes. The Clam Pizza arrived first and it was officially my very first taste of New Haven Pizza. I liked it a lot. Loved the thin crust and big taste of Clams. The Special arrived at it looked spectacular. The crust was charred and bubbling just the way I like it. The Pizza was loaded with toppings and they weighted it down so it did not have the crunch. Tasted great though but there was a lot going on here. We thought we should have ordered a simple tomato pie with cheese to truly get the taste and texture of a Frank Pepe Pizza. Also enjoyed the Salad which had a delicious dressing. We asked if it was homemade and our waitress said "no, it's Ken's which you can buy at Wall Mart. Damn it was delicious and we bought some when we got home. I would love to go back to Frank Pepe in New Haven and try even more of their Pizzas. Next stop on this day was Sally's.
