HONOLULU TO OAKLAND

Another trip to the Bay Area meant cashing in some miles for an upgrade to First Class.  We could not get seats flying into Los Angeles, San Francisco or San Jose, so we opted for a flight into Oakland which is only about 30 minutes from San Francisco.  The flight over was simply fantastic.  The flight attendants were incredibly friendly and courteous.  Always smiling and offering more wine or champagne.  This crew was among the nicest and most professional we have ever encountered on any flight or airline.  The flight began with a nice goblet filled with champagne.  This was followed by the Flight Attendant offering us a menu that was created by Chef Chai Chaowassaree who is one of the founding members of Hawaii's Regional Cuisine movement.  Chef Chai operates a very good Thai Food restaurant in Honolulu and an upscale restaurant that features Hawaii Regional Cuisine.  The menu he created for Hawaiian Airlines is probably one of the best menus I have ever experienced on an airplane.  The food was amazing!  We felt like we were eating in a fine dining restaurant in Honolulu.  The presentation and flavors were five star.  I started with the Cheese Platter while my girls opted for the Citrus Prawn Salad.  For the entree, you may choose two main dishes.  I opted for the Grilled Salmon with Shitake Mushroom Sauce and the Beef Shortribs.  The Salmon was cooked to perfection and the Mushroom Sauce added flavor and texture that was amazing.  The Beef Shortribs fell apart and dissolved in my mouth like sweet butter.  Loved the Forbidden Rice that was black and a bit sticky.  The corn and mashed potatoes were also great.  Everything on the plate was good.  For dessert they served a chocolate covered raspberry ice cream that was incredible.  The combination of sweet chocolate and tart berry was perfection on a plate.  I finished this meal and said to my wife that this was as good or better than a $150.00 dinner in Honolulu.  She agreed as did my daughter.  All of us thought this was one of the best if not the best airline meal we have ever eaten.
