THE BOOK OF MORMON
EUGENE O'NEILL THEATRE
230 WEST 49TH STREET
NEW YORK, NY

I knew nothing about The Book of Mormon upon my arrival to New York.  Had only seen some ads and thought I would never see a play about Mormons.  While at the Waldorf Astoria I overheard people raving about the play so I went to the Theatre desk at the hotel to ask about the play and see if tickets were available.  First thing the man at the desk asked when I inquired about The Book of Mormon was if I was taking any kids.  No I said and he went on to explain that the play was written by the creators of South Park and there was a lot of graphic language.  I thought this was a religious thing I thought to myself.  I had limited time available during this New York stay so I asked to book the 2:00 matinee on Sunday and I was trying to buy the tickets the same morning.  Sold out the guy told me but he said he could go through a broker and probably get two tickets if I were willing to pay the price.  What price is that I said.  He told me the price and then said he had to add a fee for the hotel on top of the exorbitant price of the tickets from the broker.  I was a bit in shock but thought to myself this is only something I do every few years when in New York.  A little voice inside me said "go for it".  I did and forked over $477.00 per ticket.  Crazy I know.  The most ever I have paid for any play, concert or sporting event.  As my credit card was swiped the guy at the ticket desk handed me a paper to sign that basically said no refunds and you get the tickets they can obtain but they did not specify where the seats would be.  I just paid a grand for two seats and the only thing the guy could say was they would be in the Orchestra or Lodge Sections.  That is pretty much the entire theatre.  I am a dumb shit I thought to myself.  Just made the biggest mistake of my life.  The guy told me he would call my cell phone around noon to let me know where the seats would be.  Remember the show starts at 2:00.  I left the desk and a few hours later I got the call.  The guy was happy and said the tickets were in the sixth row center.  Cool I said.  We arrived at the Eugene O'Neill Theatre to find that is was really small.  There really is not a bad seat in the house.  We had incredible seats up front.  The seats are super tight.  In fact some larger patrons next row over could not fit in his seat.  This better be good I said.  The lights dimmed and I spent the next two hours laughing so hard I cried.  With tears rolling down my eyes from laughing so hard, I thought this was money well spent.  I laughed and laughed and rolled over laughing some more.  This play was amazing and nothing like I thought it would be.  It is graphic, raunchy and contains a lot of foul language and references to female body parts.  I won't tell anymore about the play because I want people to go into this play like I did.  Not knowing anything about the story, plot or music.  You must have an open mind to see this play and you must be able to laugh at the history and customs of the Mormon religion.  Religion aside this is a great play and it was worth every penny.  I loved the cast, music and humor more than just about any other play I have seen.
