We were having a terrific dinner with around 15-20 family members at Angelo's and Vinci's when a 5.1 magnitude earthquake hit Fullerton, California.  Dinner had just been served and bottles of Chianti were on the table and flowing into glasses.  I was sitting across from my 81 year old Mom and Wife and my daughter was by my side.  We were eating, drinking and laughing.  Having an incredible time when the floors started to roll.  The rumbling continued and I felt the ceiling, walls and floors moving.  Then we heard a huge crash as all of the bottles from the bar next to our table fell over.  Everyone at our table was wide eyed and shouting "earthquake" My daughter jumped into my arms and began to cry.  "I read about these earthquakes at school Daddy and I am scared".  My daughter yelled "Mommy" as my sister yelled for everyone to get under the tables.  We were on the second level of a 100 year old building that was moving.  I grabbed my daughter and told everyone we were making a run downstairs and getting out of the building.  There was no way I was going to let my baby get hurt by falling debris.  I told my wife to come with us and my Mom yelled "hey you gotta pay the bill".  Fuck that I thought.  I can pay when things settle down.  Right now I'm running like hell to get out of the building.  My daughter was trembling like never before.  She said she was in shock.  "the tectonic plates are shifting Daddy she said".  I hugged her tight as she wept and shook like she was freezing cold.  She was shaking from shock and being so scared.  We were now in the parking lot along with dozens of others.  Most people opted to stay inside the restaurant but I remember after shocks from my youth growing up in Southern California.  This could be the calm before the storm I thought.  More quakes could come anytime.  Turns out my wife paid the bill and escorted my Mother out of the building.  Most of my family kept eating and then packed up the leftovers in Doggy Bags before coming downstairs.  My Mom complained that she had a full glass of wine on the table and wanted to go back and drink it.  No way I am going back in I said and then thought about the two bottles of Chianti that were open but full.  Maybe I will go back up....No way.  I just kept hugging my daughter as tight as I could.  Did not want her out of my sight or arms for anything.  Wow....what a dinner.
