Fonteverde.....ahhh...how I have come to love this word. In a nutshell one of the most beautiful and relaxing destinations I have ever been in my life. The entire family loved Fonteverde and did not want to leave this oasis in the hills of Tuscany. I had wanted to find a distant place far from the crowds where we could relax and unwind after a week in Rome and a Mediterranean cruise. Did not think my wife and daughter would like my idea of a Tuscan retreat and thought they would be bored to death and bugging me to return to the city of Rome. I was wrong. From the moment they entered Fonteverde they were happy as can be and never once mentioned going back to the city. In fact, they wanted to stay here even longer. Fonteverde was a paradise for our family. We caught it at a nice time because there were not too many guests. We saw mostly the same families and couples during our stay. If you did not see them at breakfast you surely would see them by the pool or at lunch and dinner. Seemed like we had the entire resort to ourselves at times. Service here was top notch with a waiter named Giovanni stealing the show at breakfast, lunch and dinner. The guy was all over the place and his attention to details and the highest level of customer service was second to none. A superstar we called him. The kind of person that makes your trip just that more special. We enjoyed the buffet breakfast each morning and often returned to the same restaurant for lunch. Many guests dine in their pool robes here in the afternoon and then return to the pools and spas to enjoy the soothing natural spring water that warms your body, soul and spirit. We spent hours in the natural pools enjoying the warm water and Tuscan sun. The resort features a world class spa where there are dozen of treatments ranging from messages to light surgery. There are dozens of treatment rooms and more treatments for the skin and body that I have ever seen. I am not into that stuff so I just enjoyed the pool. My wife had a facial and wanted to spend more money on different treatments and the attendant recommended against more treatments to protect her skin. Thought that was cool not just taking her money. Besides the pools we enjoyed the food here. Good thing because we had breakfast, lunch and dinner here most days during our stay. Breakfast features a large buffet of breads, pastries, fruits, juices, cereal, yogurt and hot items such as eggs and bacon. You could also order omeletes and other breakfast dishes from the waiter. The lunch spread was equally as good or better than breakfast. We enjoyed pasta, pizza, salads, soups and the absolute best Rabbit dish I have ever tasted. The Rabbit literally melted in your mouth and had a delicate flavor that was incredible. I thought the dish was made from Pork but then asked our waiter Giovanni what it was. When he said Rabbit I about died. Really was one of the best things we ate in all of Italy during our vacation. For dinner we enjoyed Ristorante Ferdinando I which is a beautiful restaurant right off the main lobby of the hotel. Food and service here were exceptional. We dined outside under the canopy one evening and it was simply magical. Does not get much better than this in life. Great food, wine and the two people I love most in life. My only complaint about Fonteverde is that we had to leave. I wanted a few more days here to enjoy the quiet, calm and solitude of Tuscany.
