Took the red-eye from Honolulu to Houston and was on the Wildcat Highlands course within hours of landing. With very little sleep I managed to shoot a low 90's score on a very tough golf course that I have never played before. Prior to the round we enjoyed lunch in the Vista Grill. This is a nice little bar and restaurant in the clubhouse that features good food, large portions and really good service. The JalapeƱo and Onion Straws ($6.95) surprised everyone. They were great. Fried Onions and JalapeƱos with a Ranch Dipping Sauce. Not too spicy but full of flavor. Loved these! I ordered the Caesar Salad with Grilled Chicken Breast ($9.95) and was amazed with the portion size. This is definitely enough for two people. I barely but a dent in this salad. The Grilled Chicken had decent flavor. The salad was a bit too overdressed for me so next time I would order the dressing on the side. Really good meal for the money. The Chicken Wingers ($6.95) were also very good. Served with some REALLY HOT sauce. I loved the heat and flavor of the sauce. You can order these Wings with a variety of sauces like Honey BBQ or Spicy Garlic. I recommended the Hot Wings Sauce.
Back to the golf. This is a challenging course with a lot of blind holes where we literally were guessing where to hit the ball. There are obstacles in front of most tee boxes which makes you have to get your tee shot up in the air and over the crap. I was hitting good drives and really did not have many problems getting over the stuff but a few of my buddies went through many sleeves of balls.
We played the Highlands course and were scheduled to play the Lakes course on another day. After playing the Tour 18 course the next day we decided to play it again and not return to play the Lake course here. Click link below to view full menu for Vista Grill
