Liked the look and feel of Square Barrels in Downtown Honolulu. The restaurant is bright, clean and open with a vibrant downtown vibe. The place filled up quickly on a weekday during the lunch hour. The crowd was mostly business people from the nearby office towers surrounding the small food court along the mall level of Bishop Square. My guest told me that the restaurant was known for their burgers so i went for the Misfit Burger ($14) with Lettuce, Tomato and Onion. The 6oz beef patty was cooked perfectly and had flavor but the vegetables and cheese did not pop for me. Again I would prefer a $2.30 In n' Out Burger any day of the week. Something about the In n' Out Burger that makes the flavor of each ingredient shine through. I think it is because they cut the onion and tomato much thicker at In n' Out . The Square Barrel Burger was ok but not worth the $14 price tag.
The French Fries were excellent though. Crispy and delicious. My friend ordered the Ratatouille Sandwich with Ulu Fries ($11). She said it was good. I tried the Ulu Fries which are made from Breadfruit. A bit different taste and texture but I liked the crunch. Probably could not eat too many of them though. No complaints about my visit to Square Barrels in fact, I would not mind going back and trying a few more menu items.
