NORYANGJIN FISH MARKET
SEOUL, SOUTH KOREA
The coolest dining experience in Seoul was visiting the Noryangjin Fish Market for dinner. This is an amazing experience that I highly recommend when visiting Seoul. Wear comfortable shoes and casual clothing because you are in an actual fish market with wet floors and all the great smells associated with fresh fish and seafood. You simply walk the market and pick out the food you want to take home or be cooked upstairs at one of the dozens of kitchens. The people working the market are not pushy and don't bother you to buy from them. They will however make attempts to get your attention and gain your business. We walked around and then decided on a vendor we felt comfortable buying from. We bought lobster, crab, clams, abalone and shrimp for our meal. Everything was placed in a bag and given to a woman. She escorted us and the food to a kitchen upstairs where she placed it on a counter with a tag on it. We were seated and just waited for the food to be served. Nobody here spoke English so we could not discuss preparation. We wanted a spicy dish but could not communicate this to the waiter or person delivering the food. Everything was cooked very simply with no added seasonings or condiments with the exception of the Clams. The were served with vegetables in a light broth and this was the best dish of the dinner.
