Could not pass up trying El Faro when I read on the window that it was the first restaurant to serve up a burrito in San Francisco back in 1961. This is where the "Mission Style" burrito originated according to El Faro. While La Cumbre in San Francisco may disagree with that as they say La Cumbre originated the large Mission Style Burrito. Now I have eaten at both establishments and I can say that I liked the El Faro Burrito better. I went for the Happy Burrito with Carne Asada Steak. The gal at the counter makes the burrito when you order it. She filled mine with rice, refried beans, lettuce, sour creme, guacamole and some hot sauce. The thing must have weighed in at 4 pounds because it was heavy. Wrapped like a fine cigar tightly in aluminum foil. I finished half and threw in the towel. Liked the flavor of the meat and refried beans. The sour creme and guacamole added flavor but the hot sauce was a bit bland. Sat in the upstairs dining room looking down at the customers and counter. Enjoyed a cold brew with my burrito and was very happy!
