Our first evening in Copenhagen had us taking a walk from our hotel through a nice park. We did not have a map or plan. Just walked and kind of followed the joggers and bikers until we literally fell upon a beautiful little waterfront row of restaurants. It was approaching 8:00 pm and we thought it would get dark but to our surprise, the sun stayed up to almost 11:00 pm on this summer day. We walked the entire length of the walkway looking at what restaurants had the most guests and a menu that we wanted to try. Each restaurant is somewhat different with some featuring Steak and Seafood, Italian Food and a variety of Denmark favorites. We settled in at Nyhavin 17 because I liked the champagne display and the Wife liked the look of the Salads and fact that it was pretty full with both locals and tourists. I immediately ordered the Nicolas Feuilattte Champagne (DKK 210.00). Thats about $16 U.S. per glass and the minimum number of glasses is two. Not knowing what to order, we asked the waitress and she was more than willing to help out and suggested what she said were some Danish favorites. We started with the Avocado and Smoked Salmon Salad (DKK 155.00). This was a nice salad with a light citrus dressing that everyone liked. The Salmon was also exceptionally fresh and delicious. The Smorrebrod (DKK 210.00) included three choices of toppings on bread. We went with the Marinated Herring, Skagen Shrimps and Roast Beef. These little open face sandwiches were very good and filling. Glad we shared them between the three of us. My Daughter loved the Roast Beef and pretty much destroyed it on her own. I had a small bite and agreed it was delicious. The Marinated Herring was probably the best Herring I have ever eaten. So fresh and moist. It did not have a fishy taste at all and when eaten with the Red Onion and Capers was heaven. The Skagen Shrimps were probably are least favorite of the three as it did not pack the unique flavors like the other two. The Fish n' Chips (DKK 189.00) was awesome! Lightly battered fresh Cod that was so bright white and moist. Served with some really tasty French Fries that were cooked to crispy perfection. I enjoyed our dinner on the waterfront at Nyhavn 17. The young staff was good and spoke English and it was fun to watch and listen to the kitchen staff cook and clean to American Disco music while they worked. Our table had a view down into the underground kitchen and we all got a kick out of watching the cook dance while he worked. While dancing he did put out some great looking and tasting food.
