RESTORAN VANAEMA JUURES
TALLINN, ESTONIA
We got a tip from our tour guide in Berlin who had lived in Tallinn. He said to try to visit Restoran Vanaema Juures during our visit to Tallinn to try some traditional Estonian food. He was kind enough to write the name down and we found the place hidden down a flight of stairs on one of the side streets in Tallinn. Kind of cool as you enter because you walk down the stairs and end up in the middle of the restaurant with everyone dining looking at you. We were seated and immediately fell in love with the look and feel of the restaurant. Kind of like being in someones home for a Sunday dinner. Truly a quaint little place to enjoy lunch or dinner. Service was good with the waitresses speaking a bit of english. My Wife and Daughter ordered the Blood Sausage. One look at it and I was not eating this dish. I did try a very small bite and did not like it. They however finished all of it. I loved the Elk Stew with the carrots and potatoes. Nice homestyle meal that was perfect to enjoy in the cave like environment. The Braised Beef Tenderloin was equally as good with deep flavor.
This is another one of those places where I just wanted to sit, eat, drink and take it all in. Just a wonderful restaurant with good homestyle Estonian food.
